Sejarah Avenged Sevenfold

    

Avenged Sevenfold (juga dikenal sebagai A7X), adalah band beraliran metal core yang berasal dari Huntington Beach, California.

Mereka berasal dari tempat yang sama dimana kesemuanya kecuali Synyster Gates berasal dari sekolah yang sama, yaitu Huntington Beach High School. Mereka terbentuk di awal tahun 1999 dimana personil awalnya hanya beranggotakan empat orang saja yaitu M.Shadows, Zacky Vengeance, The Rev dan Justin Sane (Bass).

Nama Avenged Sevenfold diambil dari salah satu kisah di dalam bibel. Walaupun mengambil nama dari bibel, M.Shadows mengakui bahwa bandnya tidak terlalu religius ataupun bertujuan untuk menyebarkan suatu kepercayaan religi atau poltik kepada penggemarnya.

Dalam perjalanannya, Avenged Sevenfold sempat berganti aliran dari metal-core menjadi lebih ke arah alternative metal. Rumor yang beredar mengatakan hal ini dikarenakan sang vokalis, M.Shadows harus menjalani operasi akibat pita suaranya yang sobek akibat melakukan scream yang terlalu keras pada sebuah konser. Namun dalam setiap kesempatan wawancara, Avenged Sevenfold sering menyangkal kebenaran rumor ini. Perubahan aliran yang mereka lakukan lebih dikarenakan mereka amat menyenangi melakukan eksperimental dalam bermusik dan ingin melakukan evolusi dalam gaya dan aliran bermusik mereka.

Avenged Sevenfold memiliki lambang yang merekan namakan “Deathbat”. Lambang ini dirancang oleh teman semasa SMA mereka, MicahMontague. Lambang ini selalu muncul di setiap konser mereka dan hampir selalu ada di setiap album mereka.

Album pertama mereka, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet direkam ketika mereka masih berumur 18 tahun. Album ini dirilis dengan label Good Life Recordings, tetapi setelah gitaris Synyster Gates masuk Avenged Sevenfold, album ini dirilis ulang dengan label Hopeless Records. Lagu “To End The Rapture” juga direkam ulang, kali ini ditambahkan dengan permainan gitar Synyster Gates. Dan akhirnya dirilis pada bulan juli 2001. Walaupun yang bermain bass dalam rekaman pembentukan album adalah Justin Sane, namun pemain bass yang tertera dalam CD skin adalah Daemon Ash. Hal ini dikarenakan sesaat sebelum proses mixing album tersebut, Justin Sane dikeluarkan dari band dan digantikan Johnny Christ. Sampai saat ini belum diketahui penyebab terusirnya Justin Sane dari band tersebut.

Pada tahun 2003, mereka pun merilis full-length album kedua mereka yang bertajuk Waking The Fallen. Album ini terjual sebanyak 175.000 copy di Amerika Serikat dan mencapai peringkat 12 di dalam Independent Album Chart di Amerika Serikat.

Album ketiga mereka, City of Evil, rilis di tahun 2005. Album tersebut merupakan salah satu album tersukses dari Avenged Sevenfold. Bahkanalbum tersebat sempat menduduki posisi 30 dalam US Billboard Chart dan terjual sebanyak 730.000 copy di Amerika Serikat saja. Saat itu Amerika Serikat tengah jenuh dengan musik hip-hop dan pop yang merajalela, lalu Avenged Sevenfold merilis album mereka City of Evil tepatnya pada tanggal 8 Juni, 2005. Hits single Bat Country merupakan lagu metal/rock pertama yang merajai MTV TRL. Mereka mempopulerkan kembali solo gitar dengan duet gitaris Synyster Gates dan Zacky Vengeance yang benar-benar memanaskan area moshpit. Album tersebut mendapat sertifikat gold dan memenangkan predikat Best New Artist in a Video di MTV VMA 2006 untuk lagu Bat Country.

Pada tahun 2007, mereka pun kembali menelurkan album baru yang bertajuk Avenged Sevenfold. Dalam debutnya di Amerika Serikat, album ini menempati posisi ke empat dalam Billboard 200. Album ini terjual sebanyak 94.000 copy di Amerika Serikut dalam kurun waktu satu minggu setelah perilisannya. Awal Agustus 2007, mereka menjalani tur Asia Pasifik mereka, dan sempat mampir di Indonesia dan memainkan lagu mereka pertama kali di depan publik. Lagu yang berjudul Almost Easy tersebut mendapat sambutan hangat dari penggemar di seluruh dunia. Ketika itu band punk Jogjakarta Endang Soekamti didaulat menjadi band pembuka.

Tahun 2008, mereka berpartisipasi sebagai headliners di tour Taste of Chaos bersama dengan Bullet for My Valentine, Atreyu, Blessthefall dan Idiot Pilot. Ketika tour, mereka merekam sebuah DVD yang mengandung 6 lagu baru mereka.

Dan di tahun 2008, mereka merilis sebuah album yang berisi rekaman live concert mereka di Long Beach, California yang bertajuk Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough.

Ciri khas
Ciri khas yang dapat andda nikmati dalam setiap musik mereka adalah nyanyian yang melodik dan screaming, hardcore riffs dan storming drum-beats. Dalam hal bermusik, Avenged Sevenfold banyak dipengaruhi oleh band-band seperti Pantera, NOFX, Misfits, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Dream Theater dan Iron Maiden.
Mereka cenderung memainkan nuansa agresif pada vokal, gitar, dan drum (bass tetap statis). Dengan sentuhan yang dinamis, mau keras atau lambat, mereka tetap menggunakan harmonisasi yang luar biasa dan komposisi yang teratur. Sebut saja lagu-lagu yang sedikit melow, seperti Seize The Day dan Dear God, gitarnya tetap di drop Dm seperti halnya metal-metal kebanyakan. Kemudian, ciri khasnya selain komposisi dan drop, Syn memasukkan nuansa sweep picking (arpeggio) di hampir semua lagunya. Keindahan sweep picking yang dipadukan dengan kromatik, slide, dan teknik-teknik lainnya bisa kita dengar di lagu The Wicked End. Kemudian selain itu, tidak lupa juga sentuhan akustik yang membawa suasana seperti di Hawaii, bisa kita dengar di lagu Sidewinder. Tapi, satu lagi ciri khas yang tidak pernah lepas dari mereka, menduetkan gitar Syn dan Zacky, memakai double bass dengan tempo yang beberapa kali lipat beat-nya dari biasanya.

Army Die

Pukul tiga pagi saya sudah terbangun dari tidurku untuk bersiap-siap ke markas pasukanku. Pasukanku ini adalah pasukan dari terdiri dari gabungan beberapa Negara, dan pasukanku ini termasuk pasukan khusus yang tidak boleh diketahui banyak orang. Setelah sampai disana tiba-tiba pimpinanku yang bernama Jaka mengatakan bahwa kami mendapat tugas dari seorang yang sering kami sebut dengan Big Dady, Jaka mengatakan “Saya (Jaka) tadi malam mendapat telepon dari Big Dady bahwa kita akan membasmi seorang gangster pimpinan Yakuza yang kabur dari Jepang bernama Takada Nasimura yang sedang bersembunyi di Indonesia. Menurut Big Dady, dia sedang berada di sebuah apartement yang tidak berpenghuni di daerah teeeetttttt….. dan membawa pasukan yang sangat banyak dan sudah bersiap perang hidup atau mati.  Tugas kita sederhana, tangkap dan seret dia keluar”. Saat Jaka mengatakan hal itu, saya melihat temanku yang bernama Andi langsung gemeteran dan merasa takut dalam hal ini. Pada waktu yang sudah ditentukan dan pasukan yang sudah disiapkan, kami langsung diberangkatkan menuju apartement yang dituju. Pasukanku sebenarnya hanya ada beberapa orang, terdiri dari Jaka, Saya, Lee Christmast, Andi, Bill Smith, Willy Jean, Sam, Yin Yang, Gunner, dan Maddog. Walaupun kami hanya memiliki pasukan yang sedikit, tetapi kami cukup disegani oleh musuh-musuh kami. Setelah sampai disana, lalu kami menyiapkan senjata kami yang sudah lengkap dengan alat-alat canggih.

Lalu kami turun dari mobil yang membawa kami ke daerah yang dituju, kami menyiapkan strategi untuk menangkap si Takada. Jaka mengatakan “Kita bagi dua kelompok, Saya (Jaka) lewat depan dengan Bill, Willy, Sam, dan Maddog. Kamu lewat belakang bersama yang lainnya, kita bertemu di lantai dua”. Saya hanya mengangguk. Jaka menambahkan “Saat saya bilang go, kita langsung berpencar”. “baik” kata saya. Dan beberapa saat kemudian Jaka Mengatakan “Go!!!...”, kami pun langsung berpencar dari barisan dan mulai melaksanakan strategi tersebut. Saat sampai di pintu belakang, kami tiba-tiba melihat dua orang pasukan Takada yang sedang berjaga di pintu dengan membawa senjata. Saya dan Lee Christmast langsung menembakan peluru dari senjata berperedam dengan cepat pasukan Takada pun tergeletak begitu saja. Lalu kami masuk dari belakang dengan cepat, dan langsung menuju ke lantai dua untuk bertemu dengan Jaka. Saat sudah berada dilantai dua Jaka dan pasukan yang lainnya menghampiri kami untuk bersama-sama naik ke lantai tiga. Menurut Big Dady Takada berada dilantai paling atas. Kami terus mengendap-endap sampai ke lantai yang kami tuju, saat berada di lantai tiga disana aman tidak ada satupun pasukan Takada yang berada disana. Begitu pula dengan lantai empat, lima, dan enam. Tetapi pada saat dilantai tujuh, kami tiba-tiba melihat seorang pasukan Takada yang sangat banyak sedang berkumpul di lorong tersebut sedang mengatur strategi untuk mengusir kami dari apartementnya. Ternyata dari awal Takada sudah mengetahui kita sudah berada di apartementnya, karena disana semua aktivitas diintai oleh kamera tersembunyi. Dan saat itu pasukan Takada ada yang melihat kami dan langsung menembakan peluru ke arah kami, kami langsung berlarian kesana-kemari. Saya langsung memberanikan diri untuk membalas tembakan mereka, setelah itu teman-teman saya ikut menembaki pasukan Takada yang sangat banyak itu. Dan beberapa saat kemudian teman kami Andi tertembak pas kena kepalanya, dia pun mati seketika. Setelah itu aku sangat marah karena teman yang paling dekat denganku ditembak begitu saja di hadapanku. Aku langsung mengambil geranat yang berada di kantong jaketku, lalu kutarik kunci di geranat itu dan kusuruh teman-temanku untuk berhenti menembak karena saya akan melempar granat. Setelah itu saya lempar ke arah mereka dan meledak sangat dahsyat. Setelah meledak kulihat pasukan Takada sudah pada mati berserakan di lorong lantai tersebut, dan kulihat Bill, Willy, dan Sam mati tergeletak di lantai terkena tembakan dari mereka.

Dan setelah itu Jaka menyuruh saya naik duluan ke lantai berikutnya. Saat sampai di lantai delapan saya bertemu kembali dengan pasukan Takada yang lebih banyak dari yang tadi, aku pun langsung menembaki mereka satu persatu sampai mati terjatuh di lantai. Dan tiba-tiba Gunner dan pasukanku yang lainnya datang dengan membawa senjata yang sangat besar dan memuntahkan peluru yang sangat banyak untuk membantuku mengalahkan pasukan Takada. Dan seketika pasukan Takada sudah mati, kami pun bergegas ke tempat Takada untuk menangkapnya. Setelah sampai di kamar Takada, tiba-tiba kami dihadang oleh seorang pengawal pribadi Takada yang bernama Ajino Motor, kami pun langsung saja menembaknya sampai mati. Dan akhirnya Takada Nasimura dapat kami tangkap dan langsung kami bawa ke Jepang untuk dieksekusi.

Setelah semua selesai kami pun langsung memberikan penghormatan terakhir kepada para pasukan kami yang gugur dalam peperangan kemarin. “Kami akan selalu menghormati jasa-jasa kalian yang sudah mengorbankan nyawa kalian untuk kebenaran. Selamat jalan kawan-kawan, suatu hari nanti, kita akan membalas semua kebaikan kalian” Ujar Jaka.
